Can you believe he is already 6 months old! It's gone by so fast and he is getting so big. It doesn't help that he's the size of a 1 year old ;) We are just so in love with him and he fits into our family so well. It's been quite the adjustment but we have finally settled into a routine and our days are getting a bit less hectic. He still isn't sleeping well at night which is wearing me out but hopefully that will change soon. I do love the cuddles! He is becoming quite the goofy guy and loves to make us laugh. He makes a lot of funny faces and now that he is starting to "play" is getting really fun! He is loving real food and BLW. He is so much happier at meal times now that he gets to eat with us. Makes family dinner time a bit easier, while being harder at the same time! He also has 7 teeth!! Yes, 7! The triplets got teeth early too (at least we thought so,) but this seems crazy! Their first teeth came in around 6 months. His 8th will be here in the next few days too. At the moment he has 4 on top and 3 on the bottom. You can really see them in the second picture :)

The triplets officially self-weaned shortly after their second birthday and it definitely came with a lot of emotions.

If I told myself when they were born that we would successfully breastfeed for 2 years, I probably would have passed out. I had done a bunch of research and was up for the breastfeeding challenge but knew it was going to be a lot of hard work and I wasn't going to be hard on myself. So I set a goal of 3 months and would move on from there if I made it. Originally I only dreamed how great it would be to make it to a year.

The time in the nicu was hard. I was so happy to hear from other triplet moms and to have great doctors and hospital that supported my wishes. It would have been so easy to give them bottles at first and let myself sleep and recover but I was determined. After the stressful few days getting my supply established (and lots of tears) it started to get a bit easier. I didn't sleep much and pumped as ofter as I could.

Once we got home it took a few weeks to settle into a routine. We were all learning. At their one month appointment I cried tears of joy to hear how much they gained and know that my efforts are paying off. After that, we had it down.

I continued to pump for a while but eventually stopped once the freezer stash was good. The pump and I had a love hate relationship. I was so glad to be done pumping, but I can't imagine life without it those first few months.

We made it to 3 months and then 6 and then 9 and I though, I can actually do this! Teething, and sleep regressions came and went and we got through it all.

We made it to 1 year!! It was amazing and I couldn't believe I actually did it.
I started imagining we could get farther than a year and quickly set my sights of 2 years. That is the WHO recommendation and at first I didn't think about it because that sounded crazy but I actually started thinking it was possible!

Well then another hurdle came our way, we were pregnant! Of course we were ecstatic but I wasn't sure what that would do to breastfeeding. Would my supply drop? Would it change? Could I handle tandem feeding the new baby with them?

We took it day by dad and my supply did drop but not enough to effect them. After lots of tips from other experienced mamas, I decided the best thing for me, the triplets, and the new baby would be to get them on a schedule and start limiting their feeds.

We slowly dropped them and were able to get them to only nursing 3 times a day. I went through a nursing aversion that happens to a lot of moms nursing while pregnant and this schedule helped me survive and not get too overwhelmed.

When baby arrived, all of them were still nursing. We successfully kept the schedule and thankfully Cormac took to breastfeeding quickly. We had several early (over)supply issues but were quickly into a good pattern again.

Owen was really the most attached to breastfeeding and the other two were slowly losing interest. Just before their second birthday, all three of them stopped nursing before naps. All within a fews days of each other. We had gotten to a point where I don't offer, they just ask. A week of two later, Evelyn and Declan stopped in the morning as well. Soon after that they all stopped asking every night. Maybe every other or every 3 days. It depended on how tired they were. 2 weeks of that and then they stopped asking all together.

Owen still nursed in the morning. He was always awake first and would come cuddle and nurse with me. It was our special one on one time. But, about a week after dropping the night feeding, he stopped asking in the morning. We still cuddle, but no nursing.

It was a very easy transition and I am so happy with the way it happened. No tears, no whining, and felt very natural.

I think it was the hardest on me. It was very bittersweet, to see them growing up and end that part of our relationship. But, transitioning to just nursing Cormac has been nice. It's much easier on all of us.

I can't believe that part of our life is over and that we made it so far, but am so beyond proud that we were able to accomplish it and will look back on these days with so much love. The bond we had was so strong and I am so happy I was able to provide that for them.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00228195321810938137noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6973771423022763666.post-35726289117786533912015-07-22T19:36:00.002-07:002015-07-22T19:36:17.583-07:00So Many Updates!!Well we are at the lake this week with all the family, which means I have lots of babysitters and can finally have some time to update the blog! It has been long over due and a lot has happened! Sorry! Adding Cormac to the family has been absolutely amazing, but exhausting and life just hasn't slowed down! People normally say the hardest transition is from 1 to 2 and then more after that are easy. For me I obviously went from 0 to 3 but adding the fourth has definitely taken some work. We have got a good routine down now but it was hard at first to have a newborn and toddlers. In some ways having three at a time was easier in the sense that they could entertain themselves but with two different age groups their is more to juggle. Thankfully Cormac is pretty easy going so when we are out and about he is totally cool to nap in the carrier and nurse on the go. All that said, I wouldn't change my family for the world :)

We have a busy rest of the Summer ahead as usual, with a few more trips to the lake, some friends coming into town, a few weddings, birthdays etc. We are also possibly planning to go to Hawaii with the kids in September. Although were not sure with work schedules and everything. They would love it though. It would be for a cousins wedding.

Anyways, first up, Declan, Owen, and Evelyn TURNED TWO!! Yep they are 2 year olds now and we seriously can't believe it!! My babies are growing up so fast and with it has come a lot of new things for us. They are talking so well now and are turning into such amazing big siblings. We had a great party for them with all the family and friends, it was a bit crazy but so fun. We ended up renting a park in our neighborhood and had a big spread of finger foods and of course cake! I need to do another post just on that later since this will get way too long if I go into details.
(and a post-partum update) This month has just flown by!! We have settled in to our new life and schedule with our new (not-so-little) little one! Cormac fits in so well with our family and we just love him to pieces! The triplets are so good with him and still haven't had many issues so i'm hoping that is a permanent thing now that it has been a month. They can still be a bit rough with him, but they are learning and honestly he is a tough little guy and they really do love him.

I have basically fully recovered. I had an early post-partum check up with my OB because of how easy (ok I wouldn't say easy, but on their terms...) the birth went, without having any complications as well as going med-free. I had that today at just over 4 weeks pp and I am completely cleared! I feel great and really have been back to myself since 2 weeks but i'm glad to have the official clearance, especially to start working out. Although I have no idea when I will fit that in! I gained about 28 pounds this pregnancy and I have lost 24. So technically 4 pounds, but a lot of flab to lose. Im not worried with in for now and am just going to enjoy my family!

Cormac is so different from the triplets to me but I don't know whether that is because he is just a singleton, because he is huge, or because of my life now. Looks-wise he still has big brown eyes, darker brown hair, and has a bit darker complexion like my side. He is just so sweet and cuddly and pretty laid back for the most part unless he is hungry or has gas. He is not quite as great of a sleeper, but we are working on that and it's still early. He is very alert and seems so old to me but again I think that is because of size. He loves to just watch his big brothers and sister.

We had his one month well check on Monday and this guy is huge! Here is his update:

Weight and Length: He weighed in at a whopping 11 pounds and 7 oz. and was 23 inches long!

Eating: He is not as much of a scheduled eater as the triplets and likes to cluster feed especially at night but he is eating roughly every 2 hours during the day averaging 20-30 mins and then around 9pm will nurse on and off for up to 1.5 hours. At night it is still similar to the day.

Sleep: He takes little catnaps throughout the day but seems to be staying awake more and more. At night we get one good stretch for 3 or maybe 4 hours if we are super lucky and thens he's back to basically every 2.

Clothes Sizes: He is already into 3 months clothes. Newborn clothes have been out for a while. He really never fit them because he was so long. He even fits some 3-6 and 6 months outfits!!

Diaper Size: He is wearing a few brands of newborn sizes still, but not many. He can fit tots bots but outpees them so we really only uses simplex. They are still awesome. Then we are still using fitteds a lot and the bottom bumpers size smalls.

Favorite Diapers: Blueberry simplex and bottombumpers for aios, and workhorse fitteds.

Favorite Things: Being held, eating, bath time, and watching his siblings.

Least Favorite Things: Gas pains, and being put down.

Milestones: Holding his head up, following voices and sounds, several small smiles but not sure if they are officially real.

Pictures! These two are from his actual one month birthday and the day we started seeing little tiny smiles. Adjusting to life with 4 under 2We have been adjusting pretty well to having Cormac in our lives. He is so sweet and I already can't imagine life without him. I somehow forgot what it's like to have a newborn in the house! Although feeding and caring for just one is a lot easier than 3 :) We have had to change our schedule a bit and the sleep deprivation is hard, but so far we are doing well!

The triplets are all doing so well with him. We have to talk about being gentle a lot but that is just because of their age. They all seem to love him and are very interested in everything. They all want to be my little helpers and it is just too sweet! We haven't had many jealousy issues thankfully and a lot of that I think comes from them already having learned to share and take turns etc. It's been a bit of a struggle with them wanting me when I need to be with the baby. It's harder for me though I think. I want to be able to give them all my attention, but I just can't at this point. They play so well together now though and I am thankful for that, I actually think in some ways having three of them is easier! We also have had tons of family around to help and they are being spoiled.

Breastfeeding has gone pretty well. The triplets are still nursing and are doing fine sticking to their schedule even when Cormac nurses basically all the time. The first week or so was difficult after my milk came in because I do have a strong and fast letdown that was hard for Cormac to handle. I have adjusted a bit with positioning and hand-expressing and my supply has seemed to adjusted a bit more as well. It is still strong for him, but he is starting to get the hang of it.

As for my recovery, I feel basically back to normal. I have had a very easy recovery this time around with no tearing and not having any medication. I am so happy the birth went so well!

We had Cormac's 2 week check-up on Tuesday and he is doing great!! Let me tell you, he is quite the chunker! He was 10 pounds 9 oz and 22.25 inches long! Glad to know these seemingly never ending breastfeeding sessions are doing something. This kid can eat!

Just look at this sweet face and chunky cheeks from last weekend:
We are just sitting in the hospital waiting for them to do the newborn screening and then we are going home! I have a bit of time and Patrick is bringing stuff to the car and baby is sleeping so I thought I would write this out while it's still fresh :)

On Friday the 13th I went in for an appointment at 2 days past due. Baby was moving tons and my fluid looked good so we decided to wait on a NST and see what happens. I was almost 3 cm. dilated and 80% effaced. We scheduled another appointment for 41 weeks and if baby hadn't come by then and there was no progress we would talk induction.

On Sunday we went to the discovery museum with the triplets and then to my parents house for an Early St. Patricks day dinner. That night I had a few BHs but just went to bed not thinking anything of it. I woke up around 3 am with contractions around 7-8 minutes apart. They were not very painful and I wasn't sold it was real yet. I laid around for over an hour and they held steady so I woke Patrick up around 4:30am saying that I was pretty sure labor had started. At this point I needed to get up and keep busy so went downstairs and told him to go back to sleep and I would get him if I needed anything. I did some laundry, took a shower, and cooked breakfast. He came down around 5:30 and the contractions started to pick up a bit. I was fine between them but had to stop for the actual contraction. For the next hour before the triplets woke up we just tried to stay busy and he massaged my back.

Around 7 am the triplets woke up, I managed to nurse them, and then Patrick fed them breakfast. We told them what was going on but they were so confused. At 7:30 we called his parents because they were going to watch them. By this point my contractions were stronger and closer together at 5 minutes apart so we called my doctor. He knew we wanted to stay home for a while though so it was just to keep him updated.

Around 8 am his parents showed up and I got in the bath. The bath helped a lot and I stayed in it for almost 30 minutes. When I got out, we started timing the contractions again and they were closer to 3 minutes apart. Patrick wanted to go to the hospital now but I told him it was still gonna be a while and I didn't feel ready yet. So we got his parents set up with the triplets and went for a walk around the neighborhood. During the walk the contractions got stronger. The walk really helped but I started to be uncomfortable between them too so we went home. This was around 9:15 or 9:30. When we got back to the house I told Patrick to start packing the car slowly, that we weren't in a rush yet. I called my doctor again and updated him and told him we would probably head in within the hour. His mom sat with me in the living room and I used my birth ball. I was having to breathe through the contractions and between so I knew it was getting close.

I could feel the baby moving down and was feeling slight pressure which I was pretty sure was my water, so at 10 we decided to leave for the hospital. Patrick said we walked through the doors at 10:13 am. My mom and sister met us there. My contractions were about 2-3 minutes apart. Once we got into the room and went through all the protocol procedures (monitors, IV, urine sample etc.), the nurse checked me around 10:35 and I was 8 cm and 100% effaced. That was such a relief (but also crazy!) to hear because it hadn't been very long and I was hoping I was really progressed so I didn't have to labor in the hospital too much longer. My bag of water was also bulging so she broke that and called my doctor. He came in about 15 minutes later just before 11 am and I was 9 cm dilated and baby was now at +1 station. They started getting the room ready for delivery.

I started to feel pressure and the urge to push at 11:10, was checked and was 10 cm! So on the next contraction I started pushing. After the first push baby's head was visible and my doctor slowed me a couple times because he didn't want me to tear and for the risk of shoulder dystocia. Let me tell you having the doctor tell you to stop pushing or push "easy" is one of the hardest things ever!! But I breathed and moaned through it and baby was delivered at 11:27 am! Patrick leaned over and immediately shouted IT'S A BOY!!! And we both started crying. Patrick cut the cord, baby boy's throat was cleared and he let out a big cry and was placed on my chest. We both looked at him, looked at each other and knew his name. He was Cormac Niall. They quickly got him cleaned up and weighed and measured. He weighed 9 pounds 13 oz, was 22 inches long, his head measured 14.5 inches and he scored 9/9 on the apgar. Everyone exclaimed how big he was and I didn't tear!! So that pain of having to wait to push and hold back was so worth it!

After he was all cleaned up, I did skin-to-skin and he breastfed for the first time. He latched right away and has done great ever since! My mom and sister left to go get us all lunch and so we could have some time just the three of us.

We texted or called all of our family and close friends and called Patricks parents. The triplets had gone down for a nap and they would bring them right after. My parents and sister came back with lunch and they hung out until the triplets came They arrived around 3 pm and were a bit shy at first. I had Patrick hold Cormac and gave them all some cuddles and them they were interested. They all got to hold him and they all kissed him! They stayed until about 4:30 and were starting to get crazy so my parents took them back home. Patrick hung out for a bit longer and then went home around 6 to have dinner with the triplets and put them to bed. I told him to just stay with them but he didn't want to miss the night with me so after they were asleep he left them with my parents and brought me dinner around 8:30 :) We enjoyed the night together and Cormac did really well! He woke up several times to eat but slept well in between. But we'll see how tonight goes! Patrick went back in the morning before the triplets woke up, had breakfast with them and then came back here around 9. He is so amazing. We should be home in about an hour and them the real crazy begins! We are parents to 4 kids under 2 and couldn't be more thrilled :)

This morning at 11:27am, we welcomed our newest baby boy into the world! I had a successful unmedicated VBAC and everyone is doing great! The triplets came to meet him after their naps and did so well! They were a little hesitant and shy at first, but quickly warmed up after some mommy cuddles and all wanted to hold and touch him! Baby is nursing like a champ and is just perfect. We are so in love.

We are hopeful to go home tomorrow and I will post a more detailed story then, but without further ado, I'd like you to meet...
(Still pregnant by the way) Anyways, the triplets are so excited to be big siblings and can't wait to meet their little sister or little brother! They are growing so much and I can't believe they are almost 2! Time goes by way too fast. We have been very busy lately and have tried to do a lot of fun outings with them before we add another baby and can't get out as much. Although we will still go to the park every day! Today we went to the Discovery Museum and they had a blast. We also went out to the beach yesterday, it was such a nice day!!
Weights and Lengths: Not really sure but I think the boys are around 25 pounds and Evie around 24. As for height, I think they have hit a growth spurt and the boys may be closer to 34 inches now and Evie 33!

Eating: They eat 3 meals and a couple snacks. They are still going strong on the nursing, but they all are limited 3 times a day. Milestones: Lots of climbing and running around, they love to go to the playground and just go crazy! They are getting more independent and don't need as much help so it's much easier now to let them roam! Just in time to add another one :) They are talking so much now and are using more and more sentences (2-3 words). It's so fun to see them grow!

But no baby yet!Well my due date is tomorrow and baby is still cooking. I had my hopefully last appointment today, but I have another on Friday afternoon if nothing has happened by then. Last week I said I was feeling pretty good and was ok with still being pregnant. Well those feelings are gone haha. I am just about done. I am so ready for this baby to arrive and done with all of the pain and exhaustion. Im ready to become a mom of 4 under 2 even though that will be a whole new kind of crazy! I feel bad for Patrick but he is so amazing. I definitely have a short temper and am probably not the nicest to him but he is doing everything for me without batting an eye. Im sure he is exhausted too. Both his mom and mine have been over a lot and are helping with the triplets and dinner.

Anyways, so at the appointment today, I was 2-3 cm dilated and about 80% effaced. So good progress from 38 weeks and only 2 cm and 50%. Baby is also now at 0 station as opposed to -1 last time. I guess that would explain my basically constant need to pee. I've been having slightly more regular contractions the last couple of days which i'm hoping mean real labor is near but it really is just a waiting game at this point. Baby still looks good and had a healthy heartbeat. My doctor gave me the go ahead to try to get things started naturally so we will be doing several things. Nothing too crazy though. On Friday if things don't seem to be getting going, we may strip my membranes and check fluid levels as well as do a non-stress test. Hopefully things happen though! We are all so ready to meet this baby!!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00228195321810938137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6973771423022763666.post-24417762898673275252015-03-02T23:29:00.001-08:002015-03-02T23:29:11.311-08:00Pregnancy Update: 38 Weeks! Preparing for Baby!

We're in the home stretch! My due date is in 10 days!!! It's crazy how fast its gone by. I definitely am feeling a bit anxious and like a first-time mom. Prepping for labor and having the unknowns of natural labor is a little scary! The baby is doing well and still measuring very big. I was checked and am about 2 cm dilated and 50% effaced. But really that means nothing in terms of how close labor is. I have gotten more real contractions this week but no patterns. My doctor thinks I will go at least another week. We talked a bit about what our plan will be and he is still very confident in me having a VBAC. Baby is head down and has dropped so it's very unlikely for a flip this late. He is only slightly worried about the size if I go past my due date. He knows I want to avoid induction and doesn't want it either but we will need to look at our options if I pass my due date.

I am feeling pretty good for being 38 weeks and besides being exhausted I'm not miserable. Im not quite to the get this baby out of me stage but it is coming. I just can't wait to meet this little one and find out who it is! The triplets are getting so excited and know the baby will be here soon. They talk about it constantly. They are at such a cute age and I love seeing them get excited about becoming big siblings! I can't believe they wont be the babies anymore! We are almost ready too! The room is mostly set up and all the clothes, diapers, blankets etc. are washed. All the gear is set up and Ive been cleaning and cooking all the time.

The triplets have noticed and they are mesmerized (and slightly weirded out) when it happens.

And a few updates :)Its taken me a while to get this post up but i'm finally getting it finished. We have had a very fun and busy beginning of the year! The past year has flown by and I can't wait to see what 2015 has in store for us. We have celebrated so many milestones and I can't wait for many more!

I'll start off with some life updates...

Patrick is in the middle of switching jobs, which we are so excited about because it will mean he is home with us more often and will be a much better career longterm. But it is a big transition and is a bit crazy right now. He has been in law since he graduated college and is switching into finance. They are similar but he is basically back at square one and has to go through all the training and testing again. He is so much happier though and is working at a company with one of his really good friends. He should be taking his tests to become licensed in mid February so by then everything should calm down. Just in time to prep for the new baby! For now he is busier than before with all the studying!

The triplets are 18 months old, almost 19 months now, and are so much fun. They are getting so big and its crazy how much they have changed. It is so cute watching their little relationships and personalities grow and they are starting to realize that life is about to change (in a good way!) We have talked a lot about the upcoming arrival and I think they understand a bit about what it means. It will still be a big adjustment (for all of us!) but I can't wait to see them be big brothers and sister and I think they are really excited too. They have all been really into playing with babies and point them out when we are out and about.

I am 33 weeks pregnant and it is finally sinking in how crazy it is about to get. We still have a lot to do and we are in the home stretch! Its crazy to think at this point in the pregnancy with the triplets we were already in the "it could be any day now!" phase. Im so glad I have another 7 or so weeks left to prepare. I am feeling really good though but I know that wont last. With Patrick being busy more of the day I am handling a lot more of the triplets duty. Its been going well but i'm so excited for him to slow down a bit again. Declan was up most of last night sick and congested which was hard. Im hoping its just a quick cold and wont pass to the other two or me but i'm not wishing too hard. I also have a slight feeling it may be ear related which i really hope not. Ill have to do a day in the life soon before and after the new baby! I had an appointment last week for the baby and everything looks great. Baby has moved head down which is awesome and still is measuring big, already 5 pounds at 32 weeks! We talked about induction but I do not want to do that unless totally necessary. My doctor thinks I will be fine to deliver a big baby, we just will have to be wary of shoulder dystocia. That worries me a bit but my doctor isn't concerned. He also is very confident for my VBAC which i'm so excited about!

We are taking the triplets to the snow this weekend as a last little getaway before the baby. Although we may do something else if the weather stays nice and i continue to feel this good! There is not tons of snow this year, but we should be able to find somewhere to go sledding with them and enjoy it!

Ok, so here is a pregnancy update and (late) 18 month post for the triplets!

I have been meaning to put up a weekly pregnancy post since 24 weeks but its taking me until now to get one done. We have been very busy with the start of the holidays. Thanksgiving was great and we spent some quality time with family. Patrick had a couple days off and it couldn't have come at a better time. He has been very busy lately and is trying to get a lot of work done now in preparation for Christmas and the new year (spoiler alert: A new job is in the works!! More on that later). We are working hard to get a lot done for the new baby in the next few weeks and hopefully will be pretty much done by Christmas. I am starting to lose energy again as I head towards the third trimester and with three 17 month olds, I need as much of whats left just for them!

As for the rest of the pregnancy, it is going smooth. I can't complain much because its a walk in the park compared to 3! But I also don't know how I did it. Im starting to get back pain and nerve pain and its really hard to think I have 14 more weeks! I am enjoying it though and I can't wait for March!

We had our last appointment a couple weeks ago now and have another in just under 2 weeks. After that it will be on to every 2 weeks not 4! The baby looked great at my last one, still measuring BIG. We don't really know how accurate it is but babe was around 1 pound 10 ounces at just shy of 24 weeks and 12 inches! So we are prepping for a big one which really isn't surprising with the size the triplets were at birth but it makes me a little nervous!

Now onto a few questions I have gotten:

A lot of people have asked if i have a feeling on the gender even though we aren't finding out. I honestly don't know. It changes often. At the very beginning I thought girl and then it switched to boy. Now I really don't know and keep going back and forth. Patrick thinks its a boy now but thought girl in the beginning too. The rest of our family is pretty split too. So it really will be a surprise! Feel free to guess!

I also have been asked a lot about how it compares to triplets. Honestly I basically feel like a first time mom! The pregnancy is so different and my care is obviously different too. I am carrying differently, but part of that is because there is only one. I basically felt closer to 30 weeks pregnant at like 16 weeks with the triplets and you really cant describe what it's like with 3 even when my belly wasn't big yet. Plus, I never had to prepare for going to term or a natural delivery. There was much more caution with them. Although 6 weeks doesn't seem like that long I was preparing to deliver them at any time basically from 24 weeks on. This time is just so different!

Ok and finally here is a belly picture from a couple days ago... You can see my belly is a bit more vertical... I think baby is breech right now because he/she is kicking my bladder! And I feel a hard head on top of my belly. Not worried yet since it is still early but we will see what they say at the next appointment. At 24 weeks the babe was transverse, still moving tons!

There is so many things I want to blog about and they never happen and then just turn into a jumbled post. Oh well.

Patrick is in the middle of another trial so he is working long hours. Im basically on my own with the triplets all day since he isn't really getting home until 7 or 8 most nights. Hopefully he will be done soon but I'm not holding my breath. Bless his heart though he really has been trying and is super exhausted. He makes breakfast before he leaves every morning and tries to bring me home treats and cravings at the end of the day. He's such a sweetheart.

I am feeling very pregnant now. I got my energy back some but now it is getting harder to sleep and I'm starting to get all the annoying symptoms: sore back, round ligament pain, braxton hicks etc. I'm loving feeling the baby though! He/she is a crazy one and moving all the time. Patrick can feel it too and even the triplets! Well at least Evelyn I know has. She gave me the cutest surprised face when it happened.

Speaking of them, they are 16 months now and getting into everything! Its such a cute age though. They are starting to understand a bit more about the baby and say "baby" and point to my belly all the time. They are talking up a storm and picking up new words all the time. Its crazy how fast they learn! They are developing the cutest little relationships and I love just watching them play.

They are getting so big!! Where did my babies go?!

We are staring to really prepare for the baby now and are starting the nursery. Its sort of been a storage room so we need to clear it out and organize. We want to get most of it done this month because the holidays will be very busy and then i'll be very pregnant and my due date will be just around the corner! It's gone by so fast this time and we haven't really had much time to enjoy it. Im already almost 23 weeks! Since we aren't finding out the gender, we aren't going to do too much in the nursery until after the baby arrives. He/she will be in our room for a while anyways. We are painting the room yellow and grey and are mostly going to do patterns for now. Depending on the gender we may add more specific stuff to it later.

There is far less to plan for only one baby and most of the big ticket items we already have. We really are just trying to mentally prepare for it and get the triplets ready to be big siblings. We have done a bit of shopping for a few outfits but not knowing the gender prevents a lot! We aren't getting a new stroller or anything and there are only a few new things I want to try this time around. We do need to get more cloth diapers and I am slowly adding to our stash.

We have talked a lot about names and we finally have them set! (I think...) This time around we are not going to share until the birth. More waiting! But really we have a couple names for each gender and are going to decide at the birth which one fits best.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00228195321810938137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6973771423022763666.post-37914750933924006682014-10-18T22:26:00.000-07:002014-10-19T09:51:54.338-07:00Halfway!! (Pregnancy Update)I can't believe I am already halfway through this pregnancy! It's gone by so fast and we haven't had much time to prepare. We have been really busy with three toddlers running around and Patrick is pretty busy at work right now. I am very much in my second trimester now and feel great. I have gotten a lot, if not all my energy back which is awesome. I've been trying to soak up my time with the triplets as my babies for now because a lot will change when this new one comes! Plus towards the end I probably wont be able to do as much with them when i'm tired and huge! They are starting to understand a little bit I think. My belly is growing and they have noticed. They now all know how to say "baby" and point to my belly. In preparation we have gotten them some big sibling and new baby books as well as baby dolls. They seem to enjoy them! Although they really don't know what is going to hit them, it's nice to think they will do well :) They will get a good amount of practice too when their new cousin arrives in November.

We also had our big anatomy scan yesterday. We weren't finding out the gender so had to avoid that but thankfully the tech did a great job hiding it and we still have no clue (although she said she saw!). Everything checked out perfectly and our little peanut is growing great! But he/she isn't so little! My doctor suspects we may have a big baby on our hands both from the size of the triplets and because the babe is now measuring over a week ahead. If the triplets went full term they could have easily been well over 8 pounds each. So we are preparing for a bigger newborn which will be quite a change from last time!
(And Breastfeeding Update)Our babies are growing up! The last month or so the triplets have been showing signs of dropping a nap and going to just one. I have been excited about this because I am ready to do some longer fun outings and so are they! 2 naps also limit the amount of activities they can do, like music, library reading etc. But I have been hesitant to start because every time I think it's time they have a day where the two naps are very necessary!

Anyways, it's finally time and we have started the process. They have been fighting both naps and sleeping for less time totaling at most 3 hours. So if we aim for one 3 hour nap they won't lose any sleep! The way we have started is we are pushing their morning nap back later from what it was before at 9 or 9:30. They have actually been able to make it to about 11. That isn't an ideal time because they wake up starving and I think that is really what is preventing a longer stretch. Then they have taken another cat nap but I don't let it go longer than an hour because it's closer to dinner. I think in another week they should adjust a bit more and make it another hour in the morning. Then I can give them lunch before they go down and hopefully that will fix it! I am aiming for a nap from about 12:30 to 3:30 or so. We really aren't too far off and they have adjusted well!

After we get this routine down, we are going to do some breastfeeding training. My supply has dropped a bit with the pregnancy so the babies have been asking to nurse more often that before. I had no problem nursing on-demand before but now I am a bit more tender (and emotional!) and I want to get a set routine for then established well before the new baby arrives. I'm hoping that if we practice limiting and waiting now, they won't get upset when I am feeding the new baby and make them wait. There is going to be a lot of changes for them and hopefully this will help with jealousy issues from me nursing the new baby. I still want to nurse them, but I want them to have set times so I dont have 4 babies screaming for food!

I want to get to just nursing them in the morning, before naps, in the late afternoon/before dinner, and before bed. I am going to start the process by telling them to wait a few minutes when they ask and slowly increase the time to making them wait all the way to the next session. We have been doing a lot of talking about the new baby and I think they are starting to notice something is different and they can say baby and point to my belly. But they have no idea what is really coming and what is going to change!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00228195321810938137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6973771423022763666.post-50552416202024853482014-09-07T13:39:00.000-07:002014-09-07T13:39:07.364-07:00Pregnancy Brain is Back...and in full force! A few years ago, I always laughed when pregnant friends and family told me about their pregnancy brain. I wasn't sold on it being an actual thing. Well, once I was pregnant, I changed my mind! It definitely happens. It wasn't terrible with the triplets, but I did tend to forget things.

But this time, i'm in for it. I have already started forgetting things and it's worse. I don't know if it's because I have a much busier life so there are more things to forget or what, but i'm only 13 weeks! Anyways, I thought I would write down a few of my mishaps from this week so that I will remember them and just cause they are hilarious.

1. On Thursday, I packed up the kids and we were going to bring Patrick lunch at work and then head to the park to meet a few friends for a picnic. I've driven to his office hundreds of times, but this time I forgot where it was and made a wrong turn! Thankfully I realized pretty quickly and figured out how to get back to where I needed to go.

2. Friday morning, I was going to take the trips with me to go grocery shopping, and we had a big list. I got them dressed and loaded up and we headed out. We got to the store, I parked got them all out of the car, put Evie in the Ergo, walked to get a cart (about 6 parking spots away), loaded the boys in, and then finally realized that I wasn't wearing shoes!! Thankfully, Patrick had left a pair of flip flops in the trunk, so I put those on and continued on (now wearing shoes like 3 sizes too big!).

3. Friday I also went to get gas and drove up on the wrong side! I went looking for it on the passenger side and was very confused until I realized. Worse yet, I have never had a car with the gas on that side, it's always been on the driver's side!

4. And then we can't forget how terrible my vocabulary is now. I am always forgetting what things are called and forget mid sentence what I am saying. Today I forgot what a "laptop" was called and asked Patrick to bring me the "mini desktop thingy." Like what? Seriously. It's a problem. Patrick just laughed.

And those are just from the last couple of days! 27 more weeks of this!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00228195321810938137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6973771423022763666.post-74122267248066904302014-08-30T22:22:00.001-07:002014-08-31T12:31:09.664-07:0012 Weeks; 14 MonthsWell we officially have just one more baby on the way! Yesterday we had our 12 week appointment and saw our very active little peanut again. We had the NT scan and everything looked "perfect"to my doctor with the little one! He/she put on quite the show and was oh so cute! The heart beat was right at 160. We talked a bit about plans for the birth and have decided we can go ahead and plan for a VBAC (vaginal birth after c-section) like I was hoping as long as everything stays going smooth! My next appointment is at 16 weeks and we can't wait!
And I am definitely pregnant! I am already showing, although some of it is bloating. I feel more pregnant than I did at this point with the triplets! My body is definitely saying, "I remember this..." I feel pretty good but still have a bit of "morning" sickness. I haven't thrown up in a long time but just get sick to my stomach. I can't complain because its not nearly as bad as with the triplets. My appetite is all weird which is the hardest part because now I need it more than ever! Since im still breastfeeding, I technically am eating for 5! Ive been trying to sneak the calories and nutrients in with smoothies and bars. Other than being a lot more tired and a bit more emotional, im doing great!

Everyone is very excited for this new little one. I found out a month ago at 6 weeks after having a few weird symptoms and the babies acting a little odd. Im not sure if my milk could have changed or if it was related at all but I tested and it very quickly turned positive! I was very shocked although immediately excited. I didn't do anything too special to tell Patrick, but it was cute. I acted a little weird the night before but didn't say anything and I think he knew something was up. He was feeding the babies breakfast while I was getting ready and thats when I tested and found out. I went downstairs with the test behind my back and asked, "How do you feel about the number 6?" He looked kinda confused and said, "Um, It's ok, why?" I just said, "Because that's how many people we have in our family!" It took him a second, but then he got it and he stood up (knocking his chair over!) with a huge smile on his face and said "You're pregnant?!!" and I pulled out the test! He gave me a big hug and kiss and the babies squealed because of all the commotion. It was really cute!

The pregnancy was definitely a surprise to us but we had started the conversation about when we wanted to have another. We had decided to try maybe around 16 months so they would be a little over 2 years apart. I hadn't gotten my period back yet so it wasn't really on our minds that I could get pregnant. Now they will be about 20 months apart which is a little daunting to think about having 4 under 2! But, we have so much help and what's one more?!

I had my first appointment at 6 weeks and a few days and everything looked great. We had an early ultrasound because of the situation of not knowing when we conceived/last period and having had multiples before. That one showed just one healthy baby! We had another appointment last week with my OB and just heard one heartbeat again. We have our next ultrasound at 12 weeks but we are pretty certain it's just one!

The triplets don't really get it yet, although we have been talking about it a lot. They are just too young right now. To reveal to family, we were going to wait a bit longer but we were going up to Tahoe for a last of the summer trip, and some of them would have been skeptical since I wasn't feeling great and I was already showing a bit. So we decided to reveal to most of the family at a big dinner the first night everyone was there (last Saturday). We dressed the babies in "Im a Big Brother!" and "Im a Big Sister!" shirts and just waited for people to notice. It took a good 30 minutes or so and it was my Mom who said,"what do their shirts say??" Then everyone looked at them and freaked out! There were lots of shrieks and hugs and it was the talk of the trip. Of the few family members that weren't there, we Skyped them and asked if they wanted to see the babies, then they saw the shirts! We also tried to teach them to say baby while pointing at my belly, but it didn't work. They are still too young to get the concept.

Anyways, we are due March 11th and are not going to find out the gender so that will be a surprise! Ill try to post pregnancy updates often, but I dont think i'm going to do them weekly like the first. We'll see!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00228195321810938137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6973771423022763666.post-88798125215004953992014-08-11T14:45:00.000-07:002014-08-11T23:12:32.224-07:00Our Family...

We found out a few weeks ago and told family this past weekend so now I can reveal it here! It was such a hard secret to keep. I am not quite 10 weeks along and due March 11th 2015! I will post more details soon but for now we just wanted to share our great news!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00228195321810938137noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6973771423022763666.post-40500018254148293252014-07-15T23:46:00.000-07:002014-07-15T23:46:12.143-07:00Breastfeeding Three Toddlers! So this post has been a work in progress for almost a month now but oh well...

I wanted to do an updated post on how breastfeeding is going now that our triplets are officially toddlers! I originally just wanted to breastfeed them for as long as I could because I didn't want to set any goals that I couldn't reach. As they got older, I slowly realized that I could do this and I must just be made to nurse! So when they were around 9 months old I started doing research on extended breastfeeding and benefits as well as just logistical ideas and how to do food/drink after they turned one.

WHO, the World Health Organization, actually is now recommending breastfeeding until 2 years old as opposed to just 1 like it used to be. Im happy that it is becoming more normal to do this as I really do think it is important and love the bond I have with my babies!

I have chosen to let them self-wean which basically means that I will let them choose when they want to stop. I will eventually set boundaries and limit the amount if they are still going strong after 2. For now, my milk is their main form of dairy so I do not have to introduce whole milk yet. They nurse at least 4 times a day and sometimes 5. They nurse when they wake up, before naps, and before bed, although I do not nurse them to sleep. Owen is definitely the most connected to it and goes the longest and asks the most often.

I tink he is really the only one that wants to nurse more than the four times but if the others see him thats when they want to as well. Evelyn asks to nurse sometimes if she's upset or really tired.

The way we nurse now is a bit different than before as they can be more patient and it isn't their only form of nutrition anymore. Owen is always the first to wake in the morning so he gets some one on one nursing and cuddling and then Evelyn and Declan get fed as they wake and if they are up at the same time, I tandem.

At night we always have the same routine which I will do another post on, but after reading books I tanden Evelyn and Declan while Owen just hangs out a bit longer. I put them down and they fall asleep quickly. Then Owen gets his turn as he needs a bit more one-on-one time at night to nurse and wind down before he can fall asleep.

With naps, it really depends. A lot of times I will feed one before we even go into their room because they need it and then just tandem the other two once in the room. If I have help, I will feed one at a time while the others are getting changed and read to, and sometimes I do it like our night routine. They only nurse for about 5 minutes at naps and maybe 7-10 morning and night.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00228195321810938137noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6973771423022763666.post-69484915273826899072014-07-10T22:32:00.000-07:002014-07-10T22:32:11.771-07:00We're Alive! Our Triplets are ONE!It's been over a month since my last post and a lot has happened! First off, my babies are ONE!!! I can't believe how fast this year has gone by and how much has changed. It has been a whirlwind but so amazing and I wouldn't change a second. We celebrated their birthday with a party at our house a few days after their actual birthday. We had lots of family and friends over and had a great time! I didn't really do much of a theme because I didn't find anything I liked but we just did lots of bright colors and patterns and kept it very "summery". We did a big Barbecue and just enjoyed our little munchkins and their big milestone!! The triplets had a great time and loved all the attention.

The morning of their birthday they woke up and we just enjoyed some family time. We had them open up a couple gifts and that was quite the ordeal haha. I think the paper was a bigger hit! We took them to the playground to wear them out for a hopefully long nap that didn't happen. We had people come over at 11am. We had lunch and games and the weather was great. That time worked out really well except I wish we did the cakes a bit sooner. We had smash cakes for each of them but we pulled them out around 12:300. I think they all, especially the boys, were a bit tired and overwhelmed at this point. Declan wanted nothing to do with it and Owen followed suit. They ended up needing to be held and then Owen got into it. Evelyn was a bit wary at first but figured it out and really enjoyed it! Overall it was an amazing party! (I am working on another post with more pictures and details of the party).

The week after their birthday we went up to Tahoe with the whole family for just over a week for the forth of July and just got back today. We had a great time and the babies really enjoyed the beach!

We have been very busy, as usual. I figured I would just write about the last few weeks to get us caught up and hopefully I can start being more regular in posting!

We had am awesome Mother's day weekend. Patrick surprised me with dinner on friday night since we didn't want to be out when it was super crowded Sunday. I was actually our first real date night since before the babies were born if you can believe it! We have done some low key things since, but nothing fancy! On Saturday we had a family day. It was pretty windy so we headed to the aquarium in Monterey. The babies loved it! As you may know Patrick and I love water and used to do a lot of Scuba diving so we were right at home. We spent the whole day there and had a blast. On Sunday, we headed to have brunch with Patrick's family to celebrate all the moms. The babies loved hanging with their cousins and all the attention they got! We went home for afternoon naps and then headed to my parents house for a BBQ dinner. The weather was amazing and we had so much fun there too. It was an awesome real first mother's day for me. Its crazy to think that last year I was still pregnant. Although we still celebrated it didn't feel quite as real. I am so grateful for my little munchkins!!

Last weekend and week Patrick had a ton of work to do for a case so he was pretty busy. My mom was over to help a lot and we spent a lot of time at the local park. The triplets have been really into actually playing at the playground now.

Also last week, the preschool that my brother and sister in laws kids preschool had a few days off because the teacher was sick as well as a lot of the kids. So we spent a lot of time with them and the cousins!

This weekend should be another low key weekend for Memorial day. We will probably spend time with the family and just relax!

The babies have been loving swimming lessons and are making so much progress! I am so excited for the summer! They all love the water and are all confident to go under the water!

They turn 11 months on Monday and I can't believe it! We are starting to plan their 1st birthday party and I can't get over how much they have grown and how quickly the time has flown!Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/00228195321810938137noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-6973771423022763666.post-3383540721849354242014-04-29T15:19:00.000-07:002014-04-29T15:19:43.374-07:0010 Months Old!!
We have had a very busy month! What's new! The babies are growing and getting so big! They are really becoming toddlers and aren't our little babies anymore. Their first Easter was great and we spent time with both Patrick and I's families. This month we have signed them up for baby swim lessons! They have been to two classes so far and seem to love it! We are basically the whole class, there are only 2 other babies and both of them were only there for one class so far. Patrick and I take them with usually one of our parents since each baby needs an adult. It has been so much fun! We are getting ready for a busy summer and have a lot of things planned. Its starting to warm up quite a bit besides the last bit of rain which is awesome for getting out and about. We really can't keep them inside too long anymore, they need to get out! We have settled into a good routine now and everyone is happy!

We have been very busy lately! We made it back from Ireland (I will do a detailed post on our return travel day... it was not fun) and had an amazing time! Towards the end of the trip we started having some teething, sleep issues and are still struggling with it. Now im thinking it's more of sleep regression/ growth spurts/ teething all at once! They have started waking in the middle of the night and not napping as well so our days have been long. I think we see the light at the end of the tunnel though. Fingers crossed.

Other than that, the babies are doing great! They are getting so big and are changing so much! Their first birthday is getting way too close! Evelyn has now been mobile for a while and they all are getting into everything. Patrick and I have slowly been trying to baby proof and set up some more defined spaces for them. If anyone has any recommendations let me know! All of the gate things seem so small for three babies!

Anyways lets get on to the updates...
