Busy Time of Year

Sorry it has been a while since I posted! We have been very busy. Christmas seemed to sneak up on us this year and we still have so much to get done! Christmas is by far my (and Patrick too) favorite season, I just love everything about it! It has been so much fun having the triplets this year. Here's what we have been up to.

We got our tree last weekend and that was quite the ordeal. When both Patrick and I were little we used to cut down our tree and it would be an all day affair. We wanted to start doing that again once we had kids but well, there are not many tree farms close by anymore, and with three teething babies we decided to wait until next year. So we went to the same tree lot we usually go too and it was madness! We tried to go early but didn't end up getting out of the house until close to 10am. Probably the most crowded I have seen it and of course everyone loved the babies. We definitely stood out! But we picked out our tree (we got a nice 8 footer!) and we strapped it to the roof and headed home. My mom and dad came over to help out, Pat and my dad put the tree up and my mom helped entertain the babies.  We spent the rest of the day slowly putting up the lights and ornaments and doing the final decorations. The babies looove to look at the tree! They just stare at it, its so cute!

We have been trying to take the babies to go see Santa and get a picture but haven't gotten around to it yet. We are going to try tomorrow but im not sure how crazy the crowds will be. Basically all last week I have been out shopping with the babies and various helpers so it has been quite an exhausting week. I am almost done, just a few more little things to get so hopefully after tomorrow I can relax! But I still have some baking to do and lots of wrapping. Its been hectic but I love it!

As for our Christmas plans, we go to mass on Christmas Eve and then head over to my parents for my sides Christmas. We have a big dinner and celebrate with all my siblings and nieces and nephews. Then Christmas morning we will have with our new family of 5! Then we will go out to brunch and just enjoy each other. For Christmas night, we will head to Patrick's parents for his sides celebration. It is going to be a lot of fun! Patrick is officially done with work until the new year so it will be awesome to have him home.

The day after Christmas the babies will turn 6 months, can you believe it?!! We are going to start solids then, they are definitely ready! Im getting excited and a bit nervous to start that new chapter!

Then on the 28th we are going to get up early and hear up to our place in Tahoe with most of the family and enjoy the snow (it will be the babies first time!) and celebrate new years. We always throw a big party with a lot of friends that go up there too. We will stay there through the 5th and then drive back. Its going to be a busy next couple weeks! But we are going to have so much fun and the best part is have three beautiful happy healthy babies to share it with!

Rough Week

Teething Sucks.

This past week has been tough. We are deep in the hell of teething. And let me tell you, trying to care for three infants that are uncomfortable and only want their mama with only 2 hands is near impossible. Both of the boys have cut their first teeth and Evelyn should cut one in the next day or 2. It is right at the surface.

I have heard about the teething hell and was hoping for the best and honestly praying that they would be the kids that did not really get effected by it and if they did, I was hoping it would be at different times. But no, they have decided that being triplets and all, its only fair that they go through everything at the EXACT same times. But, in all honesty its really not that bad, just extremely exhausting.

We have lost any form of a routine and they all have reverted back to not sleeping through the night. Patrick had a big week and was busy at work so he wasn't able to be home much. Thankfully my mom and sister were over helping a lot but the babies only really wanted me. They did not want to be put down and were all in just awful moods. Whenever it was nap time I ended up just bringing them all to bed with me and hoping for the best. We usually all got 30 minutes of sleep.

Their eating schedule is off too and are not all eating together anymore which is just hard on me. Im trying to let them eat whenever they want because it seems to help but that means im basically nursing not stop.

All of that coupled with it being FREEZING here the last couple of days (ok not nearly as bad as some places but we are california sissies) means we are not really going out much. They love being outside so im sure being cooped up indoors is not helping.

They all slept for over 6 hours last night and took some good naps today so im hoping it is going to get better. The boys definitely seemed better today.

We have tried a ton of things for them and were recommended Camilia from a fellow triplet mommy blogger friend and it seems to help! We only got it half way through this week so I think it will be of better use when we can use it at the first signs. They have been drooling tons and chewing anything in sight so we have been using cold teething rings that they seem to like.

I probably should have been more prepared for this week but we have been super busy. Well, lesson learned! Hopefully we have figured out what works and the worst is behind us.

In other news, we had a great Thanksgiving and the babies had so much fun with family. We are planning our anual family trip to the snow after christmas which should be really fun and I can't wait to take the babies!

5 Months Old!

I'm only late by one day this time so i think that's pretty good! We have had a couple of rough weeks. The babies are all full blown teething. No teeth yet but they should come through any day now since we can kind of see them. Other than that they are doing great! They are at such a fun age and we are really loving it. I think I say that every month. They are very happy babies for the most part and are really smiling and babbling a lot now. They are getting very active and are always moving. These last 5 months have flown by. I'm sort of in denial. I can't wait to spend the holidays with them and start our own family traditions. Alright now on to the details of being 5 month olds!

Weights and Lengths: We didn't have an appointment this week but we tried to weigh them ourselves. I don't know how accurate it was but we got them all around 15 pounds! I have no idea what their lengths are but they are definitely longer than last month!

Eating: I am still nursing on demand so it varies but they are mostly eating every 3-4 hours. Lately it has been a little more frequent because of the teething but for the most part it's 3-4 hours. They eat for about 20-25 minutes still and longer with the one before bed.

Sleep: They are still sleeping through the night! For the most part at least. We have had a few times where they would wake and just need to be soothed I think because of their teeth. We have moved their bedtime up because hey were starting to get really cranky. We now are putting then down around 8 pm. They still are sleeping until 6:30 am so I think they needed the sleep! It's harder on us since we have to fit our routine into less time but then we get a little more time at night and can get to bed sooner ourselves.

Clothes Sizes: They are fitting really well into 6 month size but can still wear some 3-6.

Diaper Size: They are all into the one size (and our few sized) stash!

Favorite Diapers: Bottom Bumpers, Tots Bots and Blueberry Simplex are still our favorites. We are also loving our Bububebe fitted diapers for nighttime. They are so absorbant!

Least Favorite Diapers: We still are loving them all, but my least favorite would probably be our bum genius. They take the longest to dr and have a pretty wide crotch still. I think they will get better as the babies get bigger. But we still like them and use them a lot.

Favorite Things: Bath time is still one of their favorites. Since switching into the big tub they love it even more because they can splash around together. They also love being upright, so they are loving their exersaucers and we got them johnny jump ups which they are loving! They also love going on walks and playing at the park. they love swinging and playing in the sand. They also love being outside. It's been cold here lately so we aren't outside much but when we are they are so happy.

Least Favorite ThingsWe still need to work on patience but they are getting better. This month is hard because they have been clingy with the teething. They don't like diaper changed or getting their clothes changed. They also have developed a hate for getting in their car seats. Once they are strapped in though they are usually better. Im probably going to switch them over to the Foonfs sooner than I thought because we aren't really carrying them in the infant seats anymore.

Milestones: They are all rolling from tummy to back well and have all rolled from back to tummy a few times. They can sit up well with a little support (like a boppy) and I think will be sitting up unassisted in the next few weeks. They are all giggling and babbling non stop. Owen is also getting close to scooting. Im a little worried (but still encouraging) about that one! I am not ready to have 3 mobile babies!!

Bath Time

I mentioned earlier that we have changed our bath time routine. What was working when they were newborns was not working anymore.

We originally had the puj tub and it was awesome. We would bring all the babies into our bathroom and do a assembly line of sorts. One of us would wash while the other dried and dressed. When they were tiny and not wanting to play, this was a very efficient system.

But recently it had become a hassel. The babies are bigger so bathing them in the sink was harder. They still fit fine but it wasn't as easy to wash them.

Another problem was that they were getting much more active and wanted to play and splash with their siblings. They LOVE being in water and it was getting hard and time consuming to bathe them separately.

I wanted to somehow be able to bathe them all at the same time and give them a little more time to play together in the water.

I looked online to see if i could find anything to use in the bath since they can't sit on their own yet, but everything I found I wasn't impressed with. Either they were really bulky, didn't have a high enough weight limit or had bad reviews. I almost wanted to get the angelcare supports but we decided they weren't that great and were pretty bulky to have 3 and only use them for 2 months.

Then I found some videos on youtube of people using their bumbos in the bath! I thought this was a great idea since they did love sitting in them. I just was a little worried about washing them in it and keeping them in the water.

We tried it out and it worked pretty well. The babies did love being able to kick around and it went smoother than before since we had them all in at the same time, but it was a bit difficult washing them. We ended up just pulling them out to wash and then put them back in. The other problem was that really only their feet were in the water.

So it was on to a new plan. We decided to just try laying them in the tub. I put down a thick towel so they wouldn't slip around much. They loved it! They were able to splash around play in the water and we were able clean them really easily. We filled the water just about an inch or less and since its a big jacuzzi tub they weren't too close where they were hitting and splashing each other.

It was a little nerve racking having them all in together since there is only two of us but it was easy, and so much smoother. They were all much happier and could actually enjoy it.

We may go back to using the bumbos a little later since they liked that too. And we might put them in laying down to wash them and then put the bumbos in after for them to play together. I think the bumbos may get better once they can sit up a little better but before we want all three to be sitting in there on their own. We are still testing things out!

Veteran's Day Weekend

We had a great holiday weekend with awesome weather and family.

On Saturday we got up early to get ready and head to the Monterey Bay Aquarium! It's about a 2 hour drive so I was slightly worried about that but it turned out to be easy. The babies were great and slept most of the way. I fed them all and then we changed them and headed in. We went with most of Patrick and I's family and all together had 23 people! It was really fun and a perfect day for it. The babies are starting to be really interested in looking around and observing, so they loved it! They were mesmerized by all the fish and animals. I haven't been there since before we got married and there are a lot of new things! The adults loved it just as much as the kids I think!

We brought our valco baby stroller and had two of the babies sitting in the stroller and then had the third in the ergo. Patrick and I both took turns wearing one of them and it worked out really well. The babies loved being able to look around in the stroller. Only a couple more months until we can use the joey seat! But, I do love getting a little cuddle time with the babies so i'll probably still wear sometimes too.

After walking around for a while we stopped to have lunch. Its getting a lot easier to feed them in public now since they are very efficient and finish a lot faster. I actually fed them one at a time since I was trying to eat too and needed at least one hand free! After we ate we went back in for a bit and the babies fell asleep after about 30 minutes.

After we had our aquarium fill, we headed to the beach to enjoy the sun. The babies woke after a bit of a short nap when we transfered them to the car but they were in great moods and loved the sand! We didn't take them to the water since its pretty cold but they loved having their feet in the sand and enjoying watching their cousins. I fed them again before we headed out and they passed out and slept the whole way home.

I had a pot roast in the crock pot for when we got home and they babies actually slept through our dinner! Once they woke, I fed them and we did some play time with daddy and then gave them baths. We have switched up our routine so ill have to do a post on that soon.

Sunday we had a lazy day. We went to church and then came home to just have some family time. We watched football and hung out a lot outside since the weather was so nice.

On Monday, Patrick had the day off so we had some more family time. We were going to go to the parade but decided not to and just watch it on tv. It wasn't going to work with the babies schedule to go. Monday night we headed to my parents house for dinner.

It was a fun family filled weekend! I can't wait for the babies to get a bit older and really be able to play and do fun things but for now this age is really fun!

We Made It!

Yay! We got through out first ear infections! And hopefully we wont have anymore for a long while. The morning after Halloween both of the boys fevers broke but they were still quite cranky and in pain. I let them nurse whenever they wanted since they weren't eating much at once and it was helping soothe them. Thankfully we had a lot of help because I was basically either feeding at least one of the babies or holding one for 2 full days. By the third they were starting to feel a bit better I thought but weren't quite themselves. It wasn't until Tuesday that they were really back to their normally smiley selves.

Our schedule got way out of whack since I was feeding them whenever and they were not sleeping through the night. Last night the boys slept for 6 hours and before they were only maybe going 2. So im hoping tonight they sleep the whole way. Fingers crossed!

On a side note, I can't believe it's November!! It's starting to get colder (in california terms) and I love this season. I am already starting to get ready for Christmas, I know it's early, but it's my favorite time of year and I can't wait to share it with the babies!! It's going to be so much fun!

Halloween!

Well, our halloween did NOT go as planned.

We were really excited for the babies first halloween and we had our costumes picked out and the house decorated for tick or treating. The family was going to come over and we all would walk around the neighborhood.

We decided to have the babies be farm animals, a chick, a lamb, and a cow, and Patrick and I were going to be farmers.

I spent two weeks putting all the decorations up (yes it took me that long) with plenty of help, and got the house ready for guests.

We went to bed Wednesday night after an uneventful day. The boys both seemed like they might have been a bit congested but I hoped it wasn't anything and they seemed in great spirits all day. That night Declan woke up screaming at about 1 am. He hadn't been up in the middle of the night in at least 2 weeks. I tried to get him back to sleep but nothing would settle him. At 1:30 am Owen also woke and Patrick was up by this point. Thankfully Evelyn stayed asleep and we took the boys downstairs to try not to wake her. We finally decided to take their temperatures and they both were at about 100. So I thought they might be getting a cold or that it was teething. So I decided to breastfeed them to try and soothe and calm them down. They both ate for about 20 minutes off and on but were still fussy. I told Patrick to go back to be since he had to work the next morning and not much could be done. The boys and I hung out downstairs on the couch. They did not want to be put down and we just very fussy. I finally got them to fall asleep at about 4 am. I got them upstairs and back to bed. They woke again around 6 am just as fussy. This time Evelyn woke too so I fed them all a bit early.

When Patrick was ready to leave for work, the boys were still pretty cranky and not themselves and we took their temps. again. They were still about the same. I decided to give the pediatrician a call and ask about baby tylenol but sent Patrick off since my mom would be over soon. The ped said I could go ahead with the tylenol and call in a couple hours if nothing improved. My mom came by 9 am and the boys only got worse from there. They would scream if I put them down and they also only wanted me. Thankfully my mom could take Evelyn but she was acting a bit more clingy too. It was a rough morning.

I took their temps at 11 again and they were still at 100.0 and 100.2 so I called back. She said to bring them in to get checked. I sent my mom to get the diaper bag ready and called Patrick to update him, them started changing the babies. We got them into the car and finally out the door by 12 pm. They screamed the entire car ride. Thank God I had my mom because I could not have handled that on my own. Im used to pretty easy going babies.

Once we got there, the babies did NOT want to be in the stoller and we had to wait about 30-40 minutes before we could be seen. I tried to nurse the boys and it calmed them a bit until we were finally able to get in at 12:45 pm.

Long story short, both the boys had ear infections. Great. Proving to me once again that they have to be identical, with everything!

We decided not to do antibiotics and continue with just baby tylenol and track the fever. They were down to 99.7 and 99.9 at the office.

Once we got back home at 2 pm the babies were starving and so were my mom and I. Once we all ate I tried to get the babies down for a nap. The boys weren't having it so I just held them until they passed out. They slept for 3 hours... on my chest. Family was supposed to arrive at 5:30 but I did not want to wake them. Patrick got back at 5 and he and my mom got the house ready.

Thankfully we were having people bring food so I didn't have to worry about cooking. I was a mess though and had about 4 hours of sleep and no shower yet. Family was showing up but I went to shower and get the babies and I ready.

I got them in their outfits and we made it downstairs to eat. The boys seemed a little bit better but still didn't want to be held by anyone but me or maybe Patrick or my mom for a couple minutes.

Once we all finished eating and got ready to leave the house, we decided to try to take them out. We thought they might like being outside and seeing all the people. We made it one block. The boys didn't want anything to do with it anymore so I walked with them back home. I told Patrick and my mom to stay but they walked back 20 minutes later.

I fed them and took their temps. Still 99.7+ and we decided to bathe them hoping it would help. I gave the boys more tylenol and tried to put them to sleep. I had to lay with them for about an hour before they finally passed out in our bed. Just as our family got back from trick or treating. They stayed for another hour or so and then everyone left.

The boys had another rough night last night, but this morning their fevers broke. They are still super clingy and cranky but hopefully the worst is behind us!

So, not the Halloween I was planning for, but hopefully next year will be better! They were all in such terrible moods and I was so delirious that I didn't even get any pictures! I'll have to dress them back up in a couple days.

Anyone have any teething/ear infection horror stories? Any tricks of the trade?

4 Months Old!

I seriously can't believe it. They are growing so fast!! This month they have hit a lot of milestones and are completely out of the newborn stage. They are getting to be so much fun!

We had their 4 month appointment this morning and it went well! The babies needed shots but I think i was more worried than I needed to be. They cried for a few seconds but once they were picked up by Patrick or I, they were fine. It was hard to watch though!

We talked about starting solids, because I wanted to make sure we had the right plan. We want to start at 6 months but with them being preemies, I wanted to see if we should use their adjusted age or not. Because of how well they are growing and developing, the pediatrician said we can just go with the actual age. We talked about baby-led weaning which is what we are going to do, and about skipping rice cereal. She thinks everything sounds great and is on board! So if anyone has tips of blw, let me know! Im doing my research now :)

Weights and Lengths: Declan: 13 pounds 2 ounces and 24 inches long. Owen: 13 pounds 5 ounces and 24 inches long. Evelyn: 13 pounds even and 23.5 inches long.

Eating: They are eating every 3-3.5 hours during the day and for about 20-25 minutes except the feeding right before we put them down for the night, then they eat for anywhere from 30-45 minutes.

Sleep: They are sleeping through the night! We put them down around 9:30 and they sleep until 6 or 6:30! Sometimes they wake up between 4:30 and 5 but for the most part they sleep. It has been awesome. They also take 2 or 3 good 2+ hour naps a day. Depending what we are doing, since I like to get out of the house with them, their middle of the day nap isn't always as long. They also are all basically awake for the rest of the day.

Clothes Sizes: They fit perfectly in 3 months sizes but wear some 3-6 as well.

Diaper Size: They are completely out of their newborn cloth diapers now, if not from weight it's because they out pee them and its not worth stuffing them more when they fit so well in our other ones!

Favorite Diapers: We are loving our bottombumpers. They are so trim and since they are sized they fit them the best. We also love our os simplex and tots bots. Overall Im really loving our one size stash!

Least Favorite Diapers: I love them all! But if I was to pick I would say prefolds just because they are getting so squirmy and they are more difficult and time consuming to get on. But they certainly have their place!

Favorite Things: They LOVE bath time and going outside. When they are fussing, if we bring them into the back yard they stop. They also love their bumbos and sitting and standing (with our help). We have recently started using the excersaucers for short periods because they love to stand and grab things, and they love them. They also love people. We take them to the playground and they just stare and are so interested in older kids. They are all such flirts and smile at everyone!

Least Favorite ThingsStill waiting for things, they are getting a bit more demanding when they want something now that they are older so it can get pretty crazy around here. They don't like diaper changes but aren't too bad if we distract them.

Milestones: They are talking, babbling, and laughing more, grabbing things, they all have great head control, they are getting great at rolling from tummy to back and do it almost every time  They think its hilarious. They are close to rolling from back to tummy.

We Are Sleeping Through The Night!!

Yay!! The babies have slept for 8 hours straight 3 nights in a row!! Last night they slept for 7 which is still great. Patrick and I are like new people! I was most worried about Owen since he seems to get hungry the fastest. He is always the first one up. He usually wakes about 15 minutes before the other 2 but thankfully he is content for a bit of cuddling with mommy before he eats. I think Evelyn has been ready for a couple weeks since she seems to only wake when her brothers cry.

Last week they started to show signs of it. They would wake but not really needing to eat, they just were used to getting up and wanting to be held. And they would fall back to sleep before they finished a feeding. After 3 days of that Evelyn and Declan slept but Owen still woke after about 6 hours. But I changed him, gave him about a 5 minute snack (thats all he wanted) and held him for about a half hour and he fell back to sleep. He was perfectly content with that. Then they all woke up after about 7.5-8 hours.

I am so happy that they are all on a similar schedule! It has been a lifesaver. We are also so happy that they are mostly sleeping now and we can do things. Im not a zombie anymore and have so much more energy to do things with them! Now that they are awake for much of the day, and are getting more aware and playful, it's so much better to get out of the house.

They are down for their morning nap now and then we are heading to Golden Gate Park and the Children's Playground with some cousins for a picnic and some fun!

At some point this week or next we are going to transition them to their nursery, but im kind of sad about that! I love having my babies with me. It will be good for them though.

Anyone have tips on how best to do that?

A Day In The Life: 3 Month Old Triplets

Well I missed last month so I figured it was about time for another one of these! I always get a lot of questions about how I do it and what its like, and i'm so used to it at this point that sometimes I dont know what to say.

One of the main things that keeps our family running is a schedule. I know there are a lot of people that say we shouldn't schedule babies and some that swear by it. When I was pregnant I really didn't know how we were going to handle it and were just going to go with the flow and see what worked best for us. To be honest, if we only had one baby we probably wouldn't have had much of a schedule but, it's a necessity with three. It hasn't been hard to keep because the babies have pretty much dictated it themselves. But, it frees up so much time and keeps everyone happy.

So, today we are attempting to go to the zoo with Patrick's Sisters, Sarah and Emily, and my Sister-in-law Aimee and all the kids. It should be very fun and exhausting! Sarah has Keira who's 5 and Riley who's 5 months, Emily has Gavin who will be three this month, and Aimee has Jane who's 2.5 and Timmy who's 1 month today!

7:00 am- Patrick gets up and gets ready for work, Owen starts to wake up and I change him and we cuddle.

7:15am- All the babies are up and changed and hanging out in our bed.

7:30am- Patrick is ready so we carry the babies downstairs and Patrick cooks breakfast.

7:37am- The babies are ready to eat so I get situated on the couch and start with Owen and Declan.

7:49am- Burp and switch, Patrick brings me a plate.

7:58am- Burp and switch

8:10am- All three are done and Patrick leaves for work.

8:15am- I pull out the big mat and lay the babies out with various toys for some playtime and tummy time.

(Declan practicing some pushups, Owen laughing at the hanging monkey, and Evelyn after I pulled a blanket she was playing with off her face.)

8:45am- The babies need to be changed and are getting tired. I changed them all and get them dressed for the zoo and then put them in their car seats because we are going to leave during their nap.

9:15am- They are all asleep so I go and get the diaper bag packed and get myself ready to leave.

9:30am- I grab a morning snack and then get the car packed. I brought the mountain buggy with bassinet because they will be sleeping still when we get to the zoo and will probably want to nap again before we leave. But I am bringing the valco baby too in case they dont stay asleep or dont want to lie down. I also brought 2 ergos, one for me and another just in case.

9:40am- I load the babies into the car and head off to the zoo.

9:55am- We all meet in the parking lot and get all the kids loaded (we have 8!). I successfully transfer all the babies into the bassinet without much movement (thank God they are great sleepers) and bundle them up with some blankets since its a bit cold still.

10:10am- We all make it into the zoo! We let the big kids (Keira, Gavin, and Jane) dictate where we went and it was just great to get out of the house and talk!

11:00am- The babies started to wake up and needed to be changed. We all made a bathroom break and then headed to the cafe that we would eat lunch. Emily took the big kids to the carousel and maze while Sarah, Aimee, and I nursed. This was quite the experience! I have nursed in public before, but not in such a populated area. And now that they are bigger it's not quite so discrete! It took a few minutes to get situated since i didn't have a boppy or anything. I got some looks and comments but mostly positive.

I also just tandem fed Declan and Owen first since Evelyn was pretty content and it would be hard to do the rotation.

11:30am- Emily came back with the kids and we went up to order food. I stayed with the littles since I was still nursing Evelyn.

12:15pm- We all finish lunch and the bigs are eager to get to the petting zoo so we head there next. The babies are wide awake so I put Evelyn in the ergo since she is most content looking around and hanging with mommy and I laid the boys on their bellies in the bassinet and gave them a few toys to play with. (They were loving it and im so happy I brought this stroller instead of the other one! I dont think they would have lasted as long.)

12:25pm- I thought the babies were a bit too small to be around the animals so Aimee left Jane with the others and we took the triplets and Timmy over to a grassy picnic area to relax for a bit. It was great because then the babies could get out and play. I brought a big blanket thinking we would do this and we layed them all down and they loved it!

1:00pm- We met back up and went on to the other side of the zoo. At this point I was carrying Owen since he was fed up with laying down. Evelyn and Declan were just hanging out in the bassinet.

1:30pm- We decided to take all the kids on little puffer train! It goes around most of the park and the big kids were really excited. We parked the strollers and since Aimee had Timmy in his carseat and he was sleeping she just kept him in that on the train and held Declan. I held Owen and Evelyn (and left the ergo in the stroller). They seemed to enjoy it but getting tired and normally I would have already put them down for a nap.

1:50pm- Once we got off the train and got all the babies changed and back in the stroller they fell asleep quickly. The big kids were getting tired too so we started making our way back to the other side.

2:00pm- We stopped in the store so all the kids could pick out a little toy. I got each of the babies a stuffed animal with the help of my nieces and nephew. We picked a baby tiger for Declan, a baby gorilla for Owen, and a baby giraffe for Evelyn!

2:30pm- We said our goodbyes and I successfully loaded the babies into their carseats without waking them up! (I was actually really worried about this and that we would have a rough ride home because we were at the 3 hour mark and I knew they would be getting hungry soon.)

2:50pm- We made it home with just a few squawks towards the end from Owen and I got them all inside and started to change him when Declan woke. I got them both changed and started nursing.

3:07pm- Evelyn woke up. Burp and switch

3:19pm- Burp and switch

3:30pm- Burp and done. I put the babies down on the play mat and we do some more tummy time, talking and singing.

4:15pm- The babies are getting tired again and I change them all and put them down in a crib in their nursery.

4:45pm- They are all sleeping so I go and do some laundry, I am a bit behind since we were out all day!

5:00pm- I start making dinner. Tonight it's Chicken stir-fry.

5:30pm- Patrick gets home and helps with some chores.

6:15pm- We sit down for dinner. We have to eat at this time or else we would never get to!

6:30pm- Owen is up and Patrick goes to get him and changes him. He puts him in the swing to try and buy us some time.

6:45pm- All three are up and hungry. We change Declan and Evelyn and then relax on the couch to try and catch up on tv, (tonight it's the Homeland season 2 finale just in time for the new season to start!) while I nurse.

7:30pm- They are all done and this is their cranky time of night. We try to hold them while we finish the show.

7:45pm- We made it to the (crazy!) end and take the babies upstairs for bath time.

8:30pm- They are all bathed, lotioned, and have clean diapers and pajamas on. We just hang out with them in bed while we watch some more tv.

9:15pm- Owen and Evelyn need to be changed again and then we get ready for one more nursing session.

9:25pm- I start feeding Owen and Declan since they are the loudest.

9:39pm- Burp and switch

9:53pm- Burp and switch

10:10pm- Finally finished. They eat a lot at this feeding to get ready for the night. We change them all again to their night time diapers and swaddle them and put them in their rock-n-plays.

10:20pm- They are all out.

4:41am- Owen is up. He is always first and he slept a long time! They were exhausted from the day. I get him changed and he is usually content with cuddling for a few minutes while we wait. They others are never far behind.

4:50am- Declan is up too so Patrick changes him and I start nursing them.

4:55am- Evelyn gets up and Patrick changes her and they cuddle for a few minutes.

5:02am- Burp and switch

5:14am- Burp and switch

5:25am- Burp and done. We get them all swaddled again.

5:35am- They are all out again.

7:00am- Patrick gets up and Owen isn't far behind. Our day starts all over again!

Changes!

Well we have had lots of changes around here!

The babies are officially too big to sleep together in the pack and play :( We are now using their rock n plays until they really sleep through the night and will go to the nursery. Thankfully they are still sleeping just as long but it just takes a bit more to settle them.

The babies also are all able to roll over so we have had to stop swaddling. So far they are doing well with that too and now we are using sleep sacks which are awesome!!

We have also switched them over to our valco baby stoller because they do not nap much in the stoller anymore and want to see out. We will still use it if they are sleeping but are now mostly using the valco.  We aren't using the joey seat yet because they aren't big enough but we either take the other single or just use the ergo which has worked out great. Its hard though since im used to them facing me!

We do playtime now between naps since they are awake much more and like to interact! They love tummy time and when we talk to them, they are all really trying to talk back! They love to stand up and are getting so strong and we have started to sit them in their bumbos since their head control is great.

It is so fun watching them grow up!

3 Months Old!

I can't believe my babies are already 3 months! They are getting so big and this month we have hit so many milestones. They aren't my tiny newborns anymore! But they are growing into such great personalities and are so fun to have around. We can't imagine life without them!

We had their 3 month appointment on Friday and they did great!

Weights and Lengths: Declan weighed 10 pounds 12 ounces and was 23 inches long! Owen weighed 10 pounds 15 ounces and was 23 inches long! And Evelyn weighed 10 pounds 11 ounces and was 22.5 inches long!

Eating: Still eating for 30 minutes every 3 hours during the day sometimes with little snacks in between. At night they go one 6 hour stretch between feeds.

Sleep: They go down for the night around 9:30 or 10 pm and sleep until 4 am or so! We do one feed then and they are down until 7:30 am or so. We have started to do a real nap schedule since we are slowly transitioning to the cribs. Right now they are taking 3 big 2ish hour naps in the same crib in the nursery. They are then awake for most of the time with a few snoozes in between.

Clothes Sizes: They are completely out of newborn sizes and are into mainly 3 months and some 0-3.

Diaper Size: A few brands of newborn size still fit (swaddlebees, tots bots) but we are transitioning to our one size and size small diapers.

Favorite Diapers: The nb simplexes are still going strong and the bottom bumpers are great for this stage since the one sizes are still bulky.

Least Favorite Diapers: Definitely Fuzzibunz but besides that everything's great.

Favorite Things: Being held, bath time, going outside and to the park to watch everything, talking.

Least Favorite ThingsWaiting for anything. We will need to work on patience :)

Milestones: They are all smiling and giggling, grasping things and reaching, and they all have rolled over in this last week!

2 Months Old!

Well this is a very late post as they are almost 3 months! But better late than never :) We had the babies 2 month check up after we got back so they were actually 9 weeks old.

They are doing very well and are not really showing any signs of being early!

Weights and Lengths: Declan weighed 8 pounds 14 ounces and was 21 inches long! Owen weighed 9 pounds even and was 21 inches long! And Evelyn weighed 8 pounds 12 ounces and was 20.75 inches long!

Eating: They are all still eating for about 30 minutes and about every 3 hours during the day. But they have one really long feed right before bed and then only eat one more time at night!

Sleep: At night they sleep from 10pm or so until 3:30 or 4am! It is so awesome. During the day they still take cat naps throughout but they take 2 longer naps too. Usually from 9-11, and 1-3. We usually but them in their pack and play or cribs for these so we can get them used to a nap schedule for when they sleep less.

Clothes Sizes: They still fit some newborn but are in mostly 0-3 and a couple 3 months size as well.

Diaper Size: They still fit most of their newborn size but the problem is absorbency  So we have put some away and moved into a few of our sized and one-size!

Favorite Diapers: We still love our nb simplex and tots bots and are loving our bottom bumpers as well!

Least Favorite Diapers: Still dont like fuzzibunz and have outgrown the nb bumgenius. The kissaluv newborns fit better now but we still dont like them as much. Other than that we like the rest of our stash!

Favorite Things: Play time, bath time, being held, laughing at daddy, going to the park for walks and watching the older kids. They also loved being with all their cousins!

Least Favorite ThingsThey hate waiting to be fed and held but other than that they are pretty happy! They also get fussy around 5-7 pm but not from anything in particular, just being tired.

Milestones: They are really recognizing our voices, grabbing things (hair, siblings faces, fingers etc.), and they all are smiling! Evelyn smiled first right at 8 weeks and then Owen followed the next day, Declan had half grins for a while but his first real big smile was at almost 9 weeks. They also are getting very good at lifting their heads and actually enjoy tummy time!

Pictures: I need to go back through all the pictures we have taken this month to find some from right around 2 months but I just keep putting it off and not having time. So i will update this post with those later... I really wanted to get the post done before 3 months!

I'm back

Sorry I havent posted in a while! Life has gotten in the way. We had an amazing vacation and the babies had so much fun. I knew I wouldn't post much, if at all while we were away since there isn't a lot of internet and we were very busy. But I ended up not even opening my laptop and it was such a nice getaway!

We got home after labor day weekend and I was going to get back on but unfortunately Patrick's brother in law got very sick and was in the hospital for almost 2 weeks. It was a pretty scary time and we were helping to take care of their son while Patrick's sister was there with him. So we were very busy with family and work. Thankfully everything is ok now and he is recovering.

The babies are thriving and are 2 and a half months! I do have a few posts almost dont that I need to finish up and post, so those will be coming soon! Hopefully now things will settle down a bit and I will post more frequently!

We Made It!!

Now time for some relaxation and good 'ole family time :)

The car ride wasn't too bad, we stopped three times, once to change diapers, once to nurse and change more diapers, and once to grap some quick food and more diapers! They spent most of the driving time sleeping except for a few incidents but nothing too crazy. It took us about 5 hours and 45 minutes total. The last 20-30 minutes were rough since the babies were getting hungry again but we just wanted to make it. We are now all unloaded and the babies are eating so all is right in the world again! Haha

We can't wait to enjoy these couple weeks!!

Road Trip!

First family road trip and vacation! We are just about to leave to head up to Lake Tahoe with our families for 2 weeks! We are so excited to get to take the babies!

Patrick just got home from work and he is finishing packing the last few things while I feed the babies. Im sure we are bringing way too much stuff but oh well!

The drive is about 4 hours if there isn't much traffic but since it's friday it will probably be closer to 4 and a half. We are planning to stop a couple times but hopefully the babies will only need to eat once and the rest can be quick stops.

We are hoping to get there around 8:30 but we will see! Wish us luck!

Midweek Randoms!

I am linking up again with Megan at In This Wonderful Life for Midweek Randoms!

I am finding this is probably the easiest (and only) way to blog and let you all know whats going on! Our life very busy!

1. The babies were baptized this past weekend! It was amazing and they did very well. Owen did spit his paci into the baptismal font though. I guess it's very holy now! :) We had a party at our house afterwards to celebrate and it was so much fun. It was the first time throwing something big since before they were born and even though we had a lot of help, it wasn't too bad! We definitely will be doing more in the future.

2. I am scrambling around trying to figure out how to pack for our trip. I didn't think much of it but it's really hard! We are going for 2 weeks and we have so much baby stuff!! I am definitely stressing on how to get it all done.

3. But, I am so excited to bring the babies to the lake!! It is going to be so much fun and I think they will love it.

4. Yesterday I took all the babies by myself in the car to my friends house who has twins just 3 weeks older than them! It was really fun and crazy with 5 babies! But besides taking a long time to get out the door and in the car and then back in the car and home, it was pretty easy! I'm excited to start venturing out more on my own when I don't have help around.

5. All the babies have been sleeping more at night! They are averaging about 4-4.5 hours!! But they also are up during the day more and are eating for longer stretches. I think we are going to start introducing more of a sleep schedule soon with actual nap times.

6. We introduced bottles last week! It went ok. The babies took them, but they definitely need to learn how to use them better. I dont really know if we will do them very much because to be honest they are more difficult. Especially since I still have to pump when they eat. But I guess it's helpful for if I'm ever not home and when they get older.

A Day In The Life: 1 Month Old Triplets

I have decided to try to do these every month. We will see if that happens though since they are already 6 weeks... They are changing so much and it will be really fun to look back on!

I started writing this last week so it is modeled after our day last Friday, August 2nd.

The babies have a bit more of a routine and are starting to sleep more at night. Which is awesome!! They also are awake more often so we do a bit of playing. Which is also awesome and so fun for me :)

7:00am- Owen and Evelyn are awake and Patrick and I get up to change them. By the time we finish Declan wakes and needs to be changed as well.

7:15am- Patrick goes to shower and I get set up to nurse the babies. I start with Owen and Declan.

7:28am- Burp and switch

7:40am- Burp and switch. Patrick heads downstairs to make breakfast.

7:55am- I bring the babies down (yes, I carry all three!) I put Owen in the Ergo because he needs a little attention. Evelyn and Declan go in their swings to hang out.

8:00am- Patrick serves me breakfast (an omelet) and goes to play with the babies a bit.

8:10am- Patrick leaves (late as usual) and I take over with the babies. I usually try to get some tummy time in now since they are the most awake in the morning.

8:30am- The babies are ready for a nap. I change them all, swaddle them, and put them in their rock-n-plays.

8:45am- I go to do the first load of diaper laundry.

8:55am- Evelyn is fussy so I put her in the ergo to do some chores and work.

9:15am- My mom shows up to help. She goes to do more laundry and clean.

9:30am- I put Evelyn down and go to pack the diaper bag for the day. I pack: 10 aio cloth diapers (I also keep extra flats and covers and clothes in the car), 12 cloth wipes, wet bag, 6 onesies (3 long, 3 short), 3 pants, 3 socks, 3 hats, 3 muslin blankets, 3 WubbaNubs and the other essential things that stay in the bag.

9:45am- I go hop in the shower while my mom is with the babies.

10:00am- The boys are up and ready to eat. My mom and I change them and I start nursing.

10:22am- Burp and switch. Evelyn woke up and is ready to eat now too. My mom goes to dry the diapers and put another load in.

10:38am- Burp and switch

10:55am- My mom and I get the babies changed and dressed for the day. Today we are going to do a bit of shopping and see one of my good friends.

11:15am- We get the babies packed into the car and head out to Target. They always fall asleep in the car.

11:30am- We get to Target and I put Owen and Declan in my cart and my mom takes Evelyn.

12:00pm- We finish shopping at Target and manage to get everything we need. We go back to the car to unload and get the babies back in the car. They all managed to sleep through the trip!

12:20pm- We get home and unload and my mom makes lunch. I put the babies in their swings and hope they keep sleeping.

12:30pm- Declan needs some cuddles so I hold him while we eat.

12:45pm- Owen wakes up too and the boys are hungry and need to be changed.

12:55pm- I start to nurse them and Evelyn wakes too. My mom goes to change her.

1:10pm- Burp and switch- My mom goes to do more laundry.

1:24pm- Burp and switch- I call my friend saying we will be a little late.

1:37pm- The babies are done ad all wide awake. I go get ready to leave while my mom entertains them.

1:45pm- We load the babies into the mountain buggy with bassinet and I head out to meet my friend and her two kids at one of our favorite restaurants in the neighborhood. I give my mom our shopping lists and she heads to Costco and Whole Foods.

1:52pm- I get to the restaurant and meet my friend who has a 2 month old and a 3 year old.

2:45pm- We just about finish lunch and the babies were all pretty good besides all needing to be held at different points. We sat outside and they loved it.

3:00pm- We leave to go to the playground to hangout a bit more and let her 3 year old run around. The ride put the babies to sleep.

3:40pm- Owen starts to get a bit fussy (as well as her little girl) and it seems like the babies are going to want to eat soon so we start to head back.

3:50pm- We get back home and I get all the babies back into the house. I change them all and get start to nurse them.

4:18pm- Burp and switch My mom gets home and unloads/puts away everything.

4:32pm- Burp and switch

4:45pm- I try to do a bit more tummy time with the babies but none of them are having it. We just hangout of the floor.

5:15pm- They are all ready for another nap so we change and swaddle them and put them down.

5:25pm- My mom starts cooking dinner and I do the rest of the diaper laundry for the day and try to catch a quick nap.

6:00pm- Patrick is finally home!

6:15pm- My mom leaves and Patrick and I sit down for dinner. So far the babies are still sleeping (usually Patrick wakes them up since he gets excited to see them).

6:35pm- Evelyn and Declan wake and need to be changed.

6:45pm-Owen is up and Patrick changes him while I start to feed the others.

7:00pm- Burp and switch

7:17pm- Burp and switch. Patrick goes to put another laundry load in and get everything ready for the bath.

7:30pm- We start bath time. We bring the babies upstairs and get them all undressed. Patrick and I switch who gets to wash and who gets to dress since we both love it. Tonight is his turn to wash. I hand him a baby and entertain the other two. When each is done I dry and get a fresh diaper on. Once they are all out we lotion them and get them in pajamas.

8:30pm- We bring them back downstairs and Patrick and I try to get caught up on our tv shows while we have some serious baby cuddle time.

9:30pm- The babies get changed and are hungry again. This is the time of night that they are the most hungry and eat a lot to get ready for the night.

9:40pm- Patrick goes to get the laundry out and get ready for bed and I start to nurse.

Here is a picture from tonight, this is what a lot of my days look like. Feeding two while trying to cuddle with the third! I love it though :)

10:03pm- Burp and switch

10:28pm- Burp and switch

10:50pm- The babies are done and we get them swaddled and back to sleep.

11:15pm- They are all sleeping in the pack-n-play so Patrick and I can get some sleep.

1:05am: Owen gets up first followed my Evelyn. We change them and I start to nurse them. Patrick goes back to sleep.

1:22am- Declan gets up and I change him first before switching.

1:41am- Burp and switch

1:56am- They finish and I swaddle  them and put them back to sleep.

4:45am- The boys wake up and Patrick and I change them.

4:52am- Evelyn wakes and Patricks changes her and goes back to sleep while I start to feed the boys.

5:10am- Burp and switch

5:23am- Burp and switch

5:38am- I swaddle them and get them back to sleep.

5:45am- They are down so I can go back to sleep.

7:00am- Our day starts all over again!

So we have cut a few feeds out since they are stretching to almost 3 hours between feeds during the day and almost 4 once at night. The diaper changes are also getting (a little) less frequent.

We are planning to introduce bottles in the next couple days so since this day I have started to pump again. It actually worked out really well because of their growth spurt and cluster feeding. They slowed down after 4 days and we are now back to our normal schedule. But after feeding them much more frequently, my supply has gone up a bit so I now pump for a few minutes in the morning or evening after they nurse. We aren't sure if we will do a whole feed on bottles or just rotate who gets one every once in a while. Ill do a much more extensive post on it after we start!

Any tips or advice are welcome!!

Growth Spurts!

The babies must be going through a growth spurt right now! They are all cluster feeding and it's exhausting!! Our schedule is all thrown off so im not always feeding 2 babies at a time. They are eating every 30 to 60 minutes! We are going on 3 days of this so needless to say I haven't really been able to do much else. I have at least one baby attached at the boob all day long. I'm happy to see them growing, but man is it tough!! I can't wait to see how much they have grown at their 2 month check.

I have a few posts im trying to work on in my *spare time* that will hopefully be done soon.

Besides my sleep deprivation, we are all happy and healthy and enjoying every bit! Its a little sad to think that my babies are already 6 weeks, but it's exciting to watch them grow!

40 Weeks! Original Due Date.

Today is the babies original due date! I can't imagine still being pregnant! I would be 40 weeks today and I thought it would be interesting to do another update similar to my pregnancy updates.

Our next appointment for the babies isn't for another couple weeks but we wanted to try to weigh them just for fun. The numbers may be slightly off but heres what we got...

Declan: 7 pounds 3 ounces
Owen: 7 pounds 6 ounces
Evelyn: 7 pounds 4 ounces

So they have gained a lot in the last week and a half! Can you imagine if they were still in my belly and what I would look like?! Thats a scary thought.

And now they officially aren't measured in "negative" adjusted age! Until at least their first year they will be measured with adjusted ages, which starts from today. So since they were 5 and a half weeks early, say at 2 months actual, their adjusted age will only be 3 and a half weeks.

They are definitely acting more like 1 month olds than newborns. Although they eat a little more frequently than some, they are awake more throughout the day and are hitting a lot of their milestones.

Im excited to see where they are at 2 months!

How far along: 40 weeks!
